Links that actually open

gustav

I fixed something small this week that’s been annoying me for months.

Sharing a timer only used to work if the other person already had the app. They’d tap the link, nothing would happen, and I’d get the same message again: “it doesn’t work.” Every time I’d explain that gustavtimerapp:// isn’t a real address, it’s just something the app understood — their phone had no idea what to do with it.

So now it’s a real link. https://gustavtraining.com/t?..., the kind a phone actually knows how to open. Have the app, it opens straight into the timer. Don’t have it, you still land on a page showing the timer, with a way to get the app if you want it.

I also let the link carry a name. Send someone “Leg Day” and that’s what they see, not a row of unlabeled numbers. Small thing. It’s the difference between a link that means something and one that’s just seconds and a rep count.

And when a shared timer loads, you see it happen now — a quick confirmation instead of the app quietly rearranging itself underneath you.

None of this is exciting. It’s the kind of fix that only matters because it was broken before, the kind that shows up as “oh, that finally works” instead of anything worth a screenshot. But it was the thing people actually got stuck on, so it went first.

There’s a second ticking sound in there too, and I quietly fixed a bug where new users saw two intro screens stack on top of each other. Smaller still.

More of this kind through the autumn — the boring, necessary kind.

Squat forty, rest twenty, four rounds. That’s what I tested it with: Enjoy my release party.
