Episode one is out: Tabata.
The Beep is a series of fifteen-second videos, one per interval format. No voiceover, no explanation over the top. Just the screen, the settings, and the actual sound of the timer running.
The idea came from watching people nod along to words they’ve never had explained. EMOM, AMRAP, Tabata, HIIT — they sound like a language you’re supposed to already speak. Each one is really a single sentence. Tabata is twenty seconds on, ten off, eight rounds. That’s four minutes and that’s the entire method. Nobody ever just says it.
The beep is the point, not the app. Whatever the format, the thing that makes it work is that something outside your head decides when you start and when you stop. Not you. Not how round six feels. The moment you’re the one deciding, you’re negotiating, and the interval stops being an interval.
Which is also why Tabata gets misused. Four minutes only does anything if it’s genuinely all out — bike, rower, swings, things you can’t do badly when you’re tired. Not this week, though, if you’ve just come back.
More formats coming through the autumn.
